USA why wouldn't you choose to eliminate Representative Government infavor of direct public rule & control?

We do not need this form of government, they will never serve your families needs.just line their own family and freinds pockets! Constitutionally amend them out in favor of majority rule and control for the legal citizen who want to partake! Just think if you had control of Money/Power/Wealth products and services would have to be quality for all or cease too exist! Public servants either perform or be immediately replace! Oppurtunity would be real not a myth etc.USA why wouldn't you choose to eliminate Representative Government infavor of direct public rule %26amp; control?
The Majority of American do not want to be involved in America that's why they don't vote. But the government is scared of the Idea you have and they will keep us uninvolved as long as they can so that we don't revolt against them.USA why wouldn't you choose to eliminate Representative Government infavor of direct public rule %26amp; control?
Americans are complacent to greed or power oriented structures because we all secretly want to be in on the power and resources (mostly $).

its a cultural thing...ugly I know...but it is the American way
no.
ok thank
Well, as many other answers have alluded to, there are too many issues to deal with for America or any large country to be run by a direct democracy. Even ignoring the petty issues, like what color should the carpet be, there is an overwhelming amount of legislation that would need to be voted on every day.

Second, if we get rid of the ';politicians'; then who would draft the legislation for us to vote on?

Third, in order for that system to truly work, everyone voting would need to be fully informed about each issue, which only adds to the time that would need to be invested.

Is the system we have flawed? Yes, I think so. However, I do think it's the best system currently in use, and until people can come up with a better one, we stick with this.
Good question. With technology being so advanced, it seems we are able to technically represent ourselves. This sounds good... in theory.

First, majority rule is a dangerous thing. We're much more than one nation, we are also 50 states. In electing a president, if we simply went to majority rule, a candidate can run on the platform of sending all federal aid to California, Texas, New York, Illinois, and Florida and pretty much wrap things up. How would that be fair to the citizens of the other states?

Second, many of us are unwilling to do the right thing. In this day and age where so many people are only concerned with their self-interests, imagine things like foreign aid. Most Americans would probably vote out foreign aid without really studying in depth the long term issues we would have by doing away with it. We need elected representatives that can make the tough choices we sometimes lack the knowledge to make.

Third, security. Many times, our elected officials are asked to consider and vote on things of a classified nature. By opening these to public opinion, we loose our advantage in intelligence gathering.

The theory sounds nice, but is riddled with problems once analyzed. I do agree that our representatives can be a bit pompous and we do need some more checks and balances like election reform, but to abandon our representative style of government would be pure madness.
The majority of Americans have neither the expertise nor the time to become so involved in the political process.
We have 260-million people. You want us to vote on the color of the carpet in federal buildings? Whether to put a left turn at the corner of Market St? C'mon. It's impossible, man.
there are two many issues and not enough time
