On the surface, it sounds bad but that is the basis of civilization. The next question is how do we decide whether those individuals or groups are acting in the best interest of the people in general. We as a species are still working on that one.





In the time it took to respond, you moved on to that question. Again, we're still trying to figure that one out. In my opinion, those boundaries need to be decided on an understanding and agreement of a set of absolute moral values, and the best guide we have to go on for that are Judeo-Christian morals. For example, most societies agree that punishing a woman for being raped is bad. Muslim societies believe the opposite.Should any individual or group of individuals be able to control or direct the actions of others?
it depends. if a person is trying to hurt someone then yes, someone should stop that person. but if its something that cant hurt anyone and is a personal choice such as the type of cloths u wear or music u listen to, then no.Should any individual or group of individuals be able to control or direct the actions of others?

Only in the sense of laws that protect the community as in not stealing from people, not hurting people, not killing people, etc.

Yes, if someone is causing harm to others then anyone should be able to stop that harm in whatever way they can (unless they are harming someone more harmful then they are).
I don't understand what you mean by ';should';. We are all influenced by groups or individuals in everyday like. In church we are influenced by the teachings. On a job we are directed by our employer. In a social group we are directed and influenced by the members. If a person or group of people strongly believe something, they will try to influence others they think are wrong be it is right or wrong.
I would think I get to direct what my kids do or don't do.

Of course. I think most people agree that we want government to control murderers, rapists, thieves, terrorists, vandals, etc. We want parents to control kids for their own safety. We want to be able to control those who are mentally ill so they do not harm themselves or others. We want to be able to control behaviors in workplaces to prevent sexual harassment and so on. Those are just a few examples.
It depends on what field. In politics,no There shouldnt be politics at all. The world should have groups of enlightend spiritual masters spread all over the earth, assisting humanity evolve.
well sure, like parents, employers, ministers, firemen, police, the unions, the government (city, state, county, federal), detention officers, teachers, etc. If there was no one directing then society would be in chaos.
